This website has been on line since 1998 in its original form however due to illness the creator asked for a volunteer to take it over, a volunteer came forward but only changed the password and did nothing else for five years. During the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown volunteers from the Lowton Websites team set about rebuilding it from the original creators archives. Please note that none of the team members attended the school so are unable to answer any questions. If you have any photographs or recollections that we could use to update the site please contact us at [email protected]

The Horsley's Green School
Old Boy's Web Site
Two 1958 Hampden House photos submitted 29/06/2023 by Colin Gleave can be found on Photos 2 page
The School was also known as "Stokenchurch" in Lancashire but was in fact located in the hamlet of Horsley's Green just off the A40 trunk road at Studley green about mid way between Stokenchurch and West Wycombe.
When the School Closed it was taken over by Wycliffe Bible Translators who were there until 2018 when they moved out and the site closed. all the buildings were demolished and an up market Retirement Village
called Audley Wycliffe Park has been built see website https://www.audleyvillages.co.uk/our-villages/wycliffe-park
Here is a link to Wycliffe https://www.wycliffe.org.uk/wycliffe/contact/

If you intend to visit the area do you remember Chris's Cafe on the A40?
It was in my time a Transport Cafe it was out of bounds to us students at the school and you were in much trouble if you got caught in there.
It is now an inexpensive B&B Motel visit their website - http://www.chrissmotel.co.uk/

DID YOU ATTEND HORSLEY'S GREEN SCHOOL ??
During the second world war the government formed the National camp school corporation to build and manage a number of "Camp Schools" built in the style of a small army camp. These schools were used to evacuate children at risk from the blitz and run by the local councils from whose area the evacuees came. After the war ended there was no longer a need for these schools and they were put on the for sale market and offered to local education committees. Some were pruchased by the larger counties and were run as boarding schools.Lancashire purchased Stokenchurch Camp School, latter renamed Horsley's Green School and so here starts our story.
Lancashire Education Committee ran Horsley's Green School a boarding school for boys near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire from 1947 until the early 1970's. In order to attend the school boy's had to attend a secondary school run by Lancashire Education Committee this meant that boy's from the County Boroughs such as Blackburn, Wigan and Warrington and the Cities of Liverpool and Manchester were excluded from attending. But this did mean that there were boy's from the Furness district in the north to Ashton on Mersey in the east and Widnes in the South west.
We have formed an Old Boy's (and staff) Association. If you are an old boy or former member of staff please get in contact with us. We are hoping to establish a date base of names and addresses and a start has been made in establishing a collection of photographs, magazines and other memorabilia - what have you got ? Our sponsor has offered to copy photographs and publications so that we can return them to the owner by return of post .
We have produced a number of newsletters and some recollections that have been supplied by those who have made contact as a result of hearing our broadcast on BBC GMR (Radio Manchester) or seeing our letters in local newspapers, these are sent out by e-mail and post (e-mail is the preferred method as this can be done without cost but the paper versions require photocopying and envelopes and postage have to be paid for.) Do you know anyone who has been a pupil or member of the staff ? if you do please put us in contact. Are you in this photo received from an unknown source can you give any information on it ? As you can see it is a mixed sex group. The school hosted school holidays during the summer and Easter when the Lancashire boys were at home, the holiday visitors came from places other than Lancashire. Their local school rented the centre for weekly periods. This photograph could have been one of these groups.
Did YOU attend our school ? let us know by email or by signing our Guest Book

It was one of the best things I have ever done in my life. I met Mr Milton Cooper, middle of photo with his arms folded. He introduced me to Photography. I remember he took a couple I went on to attend Photography college then a Professional Photographer for 30 odd years. I've always wondered what happen to him, as I've never been able to find any history in him. ie date of Birth/Death Employment.
